These three abstract artists were brought together recently by a common connection: they all graduated from Emporia State University.

This colorful and playful exhibit showcases the artists' individual works as well as some wonderful collaborations.
Kansas Art Guild
August 8 - October 24
The Kansas Art Guild is a group of artists from around the state of Kansas who gather monthly to share ideas and socialize. It began in 1977 as the Friends Community Art Guild, and became the Kansas Art Guild in 2018, having grown its membership beyond the boundaries of Friends and Wichita. This exhibit features eighteen artists from around the state.

Western art captures the spirit, landscapes, wildlife, people, and cultures of the American frontier. Here, you can take a moment to appreciate and reflect on this evocative Western art and what it means to us today.


The Morgan Brothers
From El Dorado, KS to the World of Animation
Skip, Nip, and Tuck Morgan are three brothers from El Dorado, Kansas. Though they grew up in a small town, they went on to accomplish big things, including working for the Disney, Filmation, and Hanna-Barbera studios. Their dedication and creativity helped to shape some of the most memorable shows of the 70s and 80s. This exhibit displays a small portion of their production art.
Birger Sandzén
Master of Graphic and Fine Art
Born in Sweden, Birger Sandzén trained in art before making Lindsborg, KS his home. His artistic legacy spans from intricate prints to breathtaking oil and watercolor paintings. He made significant contributions to lithography and was a founding member of the Prairie Printmakers. This exhibit showcases a collection of prints donated to the Museum by Ted and Alice Farmer.


Frederic Sackrider Remington
A Master of Western Art
The Coutts Museum of Art is proud to house 21 certified recast bronze sculptures by Frederic Remington. He was a renowned painter, sculptor, illustrator, and writer, who captured the essence of the American West with such beautiful, intricate, and careful detail. While not all 21 sculptures are displayed, you are guaranteed to find any number of them on display around the Museum during your visit.

Locally Inspired
This gallery features works of art that depict local and regional scenery. One of which being a stone bridge that was a source of artistic inspiration until El Dorado Lake was filled, covering the bridge.


Rivers, Roots, and Reflections
​Nature has always been a very prevalent source of subject matter for artists. This exhibit invites viewers on a visual journey through lush forests, serene rivers, and majestic horizons.
Feels So 70s
In this gallery, you will see a theme of the iconic shade of orange that was mostly used in the 70s. Here, we feature part of our permanent collection, including artists such as the Makk Family and Jean-Baptiste Valadié. The unique style and color palettes in these pieces truly make their subject matter stand out.


Bud's Room
This room celebrates the life of Warren "Bud" Hall Coutts, III. Filled with pictures, artifacts, and artwork from Bud and his father, Hall Coutts, this exhibit highlights the history of our Museum.
